Can Stress Make You Fat?

Numerous contemporary press and internet articles claim that stress can make you fat. A recent Daily Mail article, for example, asserted that a healthy diet and regular physical activity are unnecessary to maintain an optimal body weight. Instead, obesity was blamed on high levels of stress; it was suggested that a single gene expressed in the brain may be responsible for overeating during periods of stress, and that "putting your feet up and relaxing" may be a successful weight loss paradigm.
